Find out the reason that commands you to write;

see whether it has spread its roots into the very depth of your heart;

confess to yourself you would have to die if you were forbidden to write.

— Rainer Maria Rilke

A wild wandering warrior writer woman

Hello, readers! I’m Marissa Byfield, author of fantasy fiction featuring Roman mythology and lycanthropy, raised in the lush woodlands of Oregon.

After studying creative writing at Pacific University and graduating with an English degree from Oregon State University, I married my high school sweetheart and moved cross country, where I would finish writing my first novel, THE SOFT FALL.

My husband and I have since come home to the Pacific Northwest, where I work as a bookseller and newsletter editor at Grass Roots Books & Music, Oregon’s second oldest independent bookstore. When not writing, you’ll find me improvising recipes from our local CSA box, reading tarot by the light of every full moon, practicing yoga and running, and fighting hate with love.
